General Storage Questions
What is self-storage?
Self-storage units are spaces built to help you stay organized. Whether you own a small business or need some additional space for household items, a self-storage unit can accommodate many needs.
How big are storage units?
Storage units are available in many different sizes, from smaller spaces that resemble lockers or closets to units that feel like warehouses. Each facility offers a variety of unit sizes.
What can I store inside a storage unit?
Storage units are often used for a variety of purposes, but there are a few rules. In general, items that are flammable, illegal, or combustible cannot be stored in a self-storage unit. In addition, food and other items that will rot or decompose can’t be stored in them, either. Consider the following lists:
- Moving Boxes
- Electronics and computers
- Lawn Equipment
- And more!
- Firearms and ammunition
- Flammable or combustible items, such as gas or propane tanks
- Car batteries
- Non-working vehicles
For more detailed information, please contact your nearest storage facility with any additional questions.
Do you offer moving or packing supplies?
Many facilities offer moving and packing supplies to help simplify your move into storage. From boxes and tape to locks, if you find yourself short on materials, just stop by the facility office.
How should I label boxes for storage?
Label boxes on as many sides as possible. Mark the room the box came from and list some of its major contents.
How should I pack my items for storage?
Nearly everything you plan to put into storage has specific storage instructions to maximize the space in your unit. To find out how we recommend storing common household items, check out our packing tips.
What happens when I move out of storage?
When moving out of your storage unit, you must give at least 10 days’ written notice. Take everything and don’t leave any trash. Leave the unit in broom-clean condition. Remove your lock.
Storage Unit Uses
Can I live in a storage unit?
It is against the law to live in a storage unit for many reasons, particularly for liability reasons.
Can I run my business from a storage unit?
Many businesses use storage units to help operate their business. In addition to convenient space to store inventory or equipment, some of our facilities even offer office space and amenities to help facilitate smooth operations.
Can I store my car or motorcycle in a storage unit?
In addition to dedicated parking spots for vehicles, some of our storage facilities offer indoor storage space for vehicles such as cars, RVs, boats, and more.
How secure is a storage unit?
Many storage facilities offer premium security features to help offer you peace of mind. These features can include video monitoring and recording, on-site management, controlled access via keypad or code, well-lit facilities, and StorageDefender.

What happens if I don’t pay my storage rent?
Failure to pay rent means that your property could be sold at a public option.
Is insurance required to rent a storage unit?
Yes! Insurance is required to rent a storage unit at our facilities and can be purchased through the facility when you rent your unit.
Storage Unit Types
What is climate-controlled storage?
Climate-controlled storage units are heated in the winter and air-conditioned in the summer months. Climate-controlled storage is ideal for items that may be damaged due to temperature or humidity, such as furniture, clothing, electronics, and more. Climate storage units are available in a variety of sizes, allowing you to store as little—or as much—as you like. Not all facilities offer climate-controlled storage, so be sure to speak with the manager or check out all units before making your decision.
What is drive-up storage?
Drive-up storage units allow you to pull your vehicle directly up to the storage unit to load or unload it. Many drive-up units feature outdoor access.
